Overview
- Experience Required: Medium
- Tools Required: Hammer, Wrench, Protective Wear, Wire Cutter.
- Materials Required: Barbed Wire, Staples, Radisseurs
STEP 1: Safety First!
- Make sure you are wearing protective glasses, boots, heavy-duty gloves, and loose-fitting clothing to avoid laceration.
- To simplify and increase safety, work with a partner on the task.
STEP 2: Posts and Spacing
- The distance between each post should be between two and five meters.
- The post height ought to be at least one-third to one-half below ground.
- Prior to tightening the wire, ensure that the posts are securely fastened or driven into the ground.
- Note: Although wooden stakes are included in the instructions below, you are welcome to use metal ones instead.
STEP 3: Mark the Posts
- On the posts, mark the locations of each wire strand.
- In order to facilitate your work, you may also mark the intermediate posts at the same height as the corner and starting posts.
STEP 4: Tie Barbed Wire to the First Post
- Attach the first barbed wire strand, starting from the bottom to the starting post at the proper height.
- To maintain tension, hook the wire around the post, double-back, then wrap it over itself four or five times.
- Unroll the barbed wire gradually up to the corner or end post.
STEP 5: Tie Radisseur to the Post
- Upon reaching the initial corner or end post, fasten the radisseur to the post at the same height as the initial barbed wire line using a length of wire.
- With 10 centimeters left over, cut the first barbed wire line where the post is.
- Weave the loose end through the center pin hole of the radisseur to secure it.
STEP 6: Tension the Barbed Wire
- Using a wrench, tighten the barbed wire by rotating the radisseur pin in a clockwise manner.
- To extend it, use just one hand.
STEP 7: Staple the Wire
- After the initial barbed wire strand is fastened to the end posts, staple each subsequent strand to the intermediate posts one at a time.
- Begin at the first post and continue at each one at the same height.
- Allow a small amount of wiggle area when you staple the wire to the posts.
STEP 8: Install the Rest of the Strands
- To add more barbed wire lines, follow the previously mentioned procedures.
- Take care to maintain a constant strain on the wire.
